Dear Sacramento Fire Spinning, Music, and Dance Members,
We are sending out a news up-date to all of you with important information and new implementations to make our group even better. I want to first express my thanks to all of our active members for so faithfully coming out to express your unique talents, and share your inspiration. It is the members that make this group what it is so we ask all of you to come join us because without you, our group is missing something special and unique. If you love music, if you love to dance, if you love spinning fire (or non-fire), and if you love to watch the performers then come on out!
We would like to see our group reach its highest potential and this involves some goals we would like your help on. The first goal is to bond and get to know one another to better work together, share ideas, and feel that we are in the company of friends. We are open to suggestions on a day outing to do something fun. Feedback on a fun place or activity for the group, day, and time is encouraged. After gathering some information we will send you the options for a vote and mark it in our calendar.
Second goal: Increased participation! We have over a hundred members and some of you lovely faces we have yet to meet! For participation, each member is required to make at least one or two appearances to the group a year. For now, we have changed our full group meet to every other Friday once again until we have events that we need extra meets to practice for. What we would like to do to help you be more inspired to come out is to have something special and different each meeting led by different members. This is your chance to teach a special skill, do a special performance, or some sort of 'show and tell' for the group. For example we may have an "African Beats" night for the musicians to learn and drum to or a workshop on spinning the five-beat forward and reverse weave for poi spinners, or even a "how to make a tribal belly dance hair piece" lesson. Email us with your suggestions and what meetup night you would like to share and we will coordinate you in our calendar.
Coming up next week: ATTENTION Fire Dancers! Assistant organizer, Colleen, will be beginning a choreographed modern dance piece with fire. A video of the choreography will be presented at the next meetup on April 18th so if you are interested, don't miss it!
And last but certainly not least, our third goal: Raising money for much needed materials for our group as well as covering costs that go into each meetup. Materials that we need include:
- A fire extinguisher (Class ABC)
- Duvetine
- Fuel for spinning
- Practice Poi sets for our beginners
- Chinese ribbon sticks for upcoming performances (American Cancer Society and Rocklin Jubilee)
If you have any further requests to add to our materials list for the group, email us your suggestions! We would like to also put some of this money towards future events for performances and even fun outings for everyone. The only way we can raise money to do this is by asking for membership dues/fees.
We will keep an expense report of the group's treasury - how much money the group has, what the money is spent on, and money saved for other needed materials or event fees, etc. available for everyone to see. We will also keep a detailed record of each member's payments and dues.
Current members, who are not able to come, are not interested in participating at this time, or that do not make their dues will be released from the group. We understand that not everyone is willing to join us at this time and you are always welcome to come back when you want to participate with us. Our goal isn't to have lots of inactive members join our group but to have members that come and contribute their talents and efforts to the community.
Any further suggestions, thoughts, and ideas are more than welcome as again, I want to make clear that this is your group and it is what each of us make it. We look forward to seeing you at the next meeting!
Cordially,
Julz (Organizer) & Colleen (Assistant Organizer)
